ULTEM™ DT1820EV Non Reinforced Transparent, High Heat PEI Blend Resin

Easy Release, Unique Improved Ductility and Enhanced Hydrostability

ULTEM™ DT1820EV PEI Resin is a Non Reinforced for Wide Applications and Well Suited for Direct Sputtering PVD Metallization.

During Sputtering, the Material’s High Heat Resistance and Excellent Primer-less Adhesion to the PVD Layer Enable Faster Throughput. In Addition, its Stiffness and Low Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE) help to Avoid Cracks in the Metallized Layer. Using PVD with ULTEM DT1820EV Resin Yields a Brilliant, Colorful, and Glossy Finish that Replicates the look of Metal while Lowering the Overall Production Costs.

Further, PVD is a Simpler Process than Non-Conductive Vacuum Metallization (NCVM), which is Typically used for Glass-filled Polycarbonate (PC) Resin.

For Example, the PVD Layer, which determines the Color of the Part, Enables the Elimination of Three Coating Steps used in NCVM. The Thick Coating that Results from NCVM can Accumulate along the Edges and Corners of the Part, Preventing a Clean, Sharp Line.

Customers that have Trialed ULTEM DT1820EV Resin in PVD-metallized Smartphone Camera Deco Ring are Impressed with the Excellent Metallic Appearance Compared to Glass-filled PC using NCVM.

It's Available in Transparent Color and Best for Optical Interconnections and Lenses such as IR Sensors and Optical Transceivers

ULTEM DT1820EV Resin has Improved Ductility, Enhanced Hysrostability & High Temperature Performance. It Features High Transmission in IR regions, Lower Transmission in VIS Regions

It is from the Family of ULTEM™, An Amorphous Thermoplastic Polyetherimide (PEI) Material offering Outstanding Elevated Thermal Resistance, High Strength, and Stiffness with Broad Chemical Resistance

ULTEM™ Polyetherimide or PEI Resin offers

- Remarkable Strength and Stiffness offering Outstanding Strength among the Available Alternatives, with Predictable Stiffness and strength up to 200° Celsius. Unfilled, Transparent Grades are Equal in Strength to other Thermoplastics with Opacifying Fillers.

- Long-Term Heat Resistance, thus Achieving Excellent Stability of Mechanical and Physical Properties at Elevated Temperatures due to High Glass Transition Temperature of 217 °C. Available Relative Thermal Indices (RTI) up to 180° Celsius

- High Dimensional Stability offers Predictability over a Wide Temperature Range. Filled Grades offer Exceptionally High Tolerance Dimensional Capabilities.

- Environmental Stress & Cracking Resistance. Unlike Most Other Amorphous Thermoplastics, Ultem Resins Retain Strength and Resist Stress Cracking when Exposed to Automotive and Aircraft Fluids, Aliphatic Hydrocarbons, Alcohols, Acids, and Weak Aqueous Solutions.

- Flammability, Smoke Generation, and Toxicity Inherent Flame Resistance without Additives in Most Grades. Exceptionally Difficult to Ignite, with A Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) Of 47%. Meeting UL94 V0 Specifications in Sections As Thin As 0.41 mm. Generates Extremely Low Smoke per NBS Smoke Evolution Test, with Products of Combustion No More Toxic than Those of Wood.

- Good Processability. Can Be Extruded, Thermoformed, Extrusion, Blow Molded and Injection Molded. Good Flow Ability allows Long Flow Lengths Down to 0.2 mm Thick Using Conventional Injection Molding Equipment.
